About me

My name is Omer Ali Al Nahdi. I am 21 years old. I live in the capital of the UAE, Abu Dhabi. It’s a very nice place where everything is close to you. I graduated from the secondary school three years ago, in 2004. I have studied in the Petroleum Institute for one year and then I moved to study in the Higher Colleges of Technology. I am a sponsored student by the Health Care Authority. in the (HCT), I am studying Medical Imaging and I am planning to get the bachelor degree. I have to study for five years, and in this year I will finish my second year. My favorite hobbies are playing football, camping, traveling and reading.

Global Warming

Global warming is the increase in temperature world wide because of the increase in (CO2) amount in the atmosphere. This (CO2) remains trapped in the atmosphere. This can lead to many problems, and some of them are really serious. According to the history, most of the causes of this problem are made by us, and we are responsible for solving it, because this is our children’s lives. What an inconvenient truth it is!

Causes of Global Warming

There are many causes of global warming. One major problem is the increase use of fossil fuel especially in automobiles. For example, in the USA 20% of the carbon emission is from cars. Moreover, deforestation is also a major cause. To explain further, over the days we cut down the forests for natural resources like wood. As we emitting (CO2) daily and cutting the forests down, the (CO2) will never be neutralized and the (CO2) rate will increase rapidly. 25% of carbon on the earth is because of this problem. Lastly, over populations which definitely will increase the use of energy. According to the different economical situation, it is difficult for governments and individuals to cut down the carbon emission.

As we are talking about a hot issue which is global warming that has many causes, I think each one of us thinks about one cause more than another. It’s observable that factories have a large effect on this problem as it produces a large amount of smoke in a fix time rate everyday in the air. Furthermore, all of the developed countries have factories and almost all the developing countries have some or are planning to build new ones. Many people agree that our big concern must be in the factories problem because it requires a huge effort change it. In contrast to cars where we produce cars with solar energy, but how we will build them? By the factories which will damage our earth.

Effects of Global Warming

As global warming is taking place one day after another, it has serious effects on living or non-living things. The first sign of global warming is the rise of overall temperature in the world. It is observable that some European countries become hotter than before. Another effect is the rise of sea level. This is a sequence of the water expansion because of the increases in temperature. Some low land level countries will be flooded. Finally, animals and plants will suffer from this problem. To clarify, changing climate, deforestation and other causes will affect the living place of the wildlife and will not provide them the good condition to live.

As I mentioned previously, factories are the major cause of global warming as well as it cause acid rain. I believe that acid rain is a short-term effect of factories that we are facing now. It causes acidification of lakes and also contributes in the damage of trees and plants. Moreover, acid rain accelerates the decay of buildings as it takes of the paints and damages the building materials. I addition to that, after acid rain falls on the earth, many harm gases will be released , such as (SO2) and (NOx) that will help in degradation and decline the level of public health.

The UAE and Global Warming

The UAE has made a very huge progress in the global warming issue. There are three main things that I would like to mention. The first thing is the protection of wildlife. The UAE has made many large fields and islands to put animals and plants to protect them. An example is Ser Bani Yas Island which has a variety of wild animals and plants. Another thing to mention is the environmental day and tree planting week where the government gives the citizens plants and trees for free. In addition to that, awards are being given by sheiks, such as the WWF Gold Panda Award. Lastly, the UAE has signed the Kyoto agreement. This shows that the UAE are making a huge progress in the Global Warming problem.

What individuals can do to reduce (CO2) level?

Global warming is a problem that the entire world must be one hand to solve it. This requires a co-operation from all countries and individuals. I believe individuals in the UAE can do two main things to help in the conflict. As the citizen of the UAE almost depend on cars in transportation, they car pump their tires fully with air. This will help reduce the engine effort that will reduce (CO2) emission. Another thing is to balance the own (CO2) emission. For instance, if someone has car or machine that produces (CO2), he must plant some trees to balance level. The more the cars a person has, the more the trees he must plant. Imagine if we all did the same thing!

What i have learned from this project?

In this good project I have learned a lot of things. First of all, I learned how to make a blogger. Before I heard about global warming and I knew some, but now I have now a better idea about it. This is because the research I have done to cover all of the global warming topics. As I wrote a lot in this project, I have practiced my writing and increase my band. I used also a variety of new academic words. If there is something special, this will be sharing information and searching the blogs. Really it’s a useful project.
